Top Style Tricks for Petite Women

The fact is some of us are just made short - me being one of the many.  I'm often referred to as the 'vertically challenged', 'the stumpy one', 'short-stack', or, as the more-politer members of society like to refer to me as: 'the petite one'.  But the truth of the matter is I'm small, and I actually like it.  So what if I don't have long legs up to my armpits, calves like a race-horse and struggle to see over that dude's head who's just sat down in front of me at the cinema.  I may be short, but that doesn't mean I don't have style...and of course heels.

So here are my top style tricks for all you gorgeous fellow shorties out there:

1.   AVOID LONG TOPS

Longer tops are great on taller people, but for us shortcakes they will only take up valuable leg room.  To make our legs look longer, try wearing tops that stop at, or just above, the tops of your thighs.  Tucking in t-shirts will also help to show off those pins and really slim your waist too.

2.   AVOID KNEE-LENGTH SKIRTS

Wearing knee-length skirts and dresses will cut your legs in half - that's fine if you've legs that go on forever but if you're of the shorter variety you need to expose them as much as possible.  Try a cute mini or midi length instead and get those gorgeous legs seen!

3.   SHOW SOME ANKLE

If the thought of the Great British weather makes you want to cover up, try to keep at least a bit of ankle showing.  Wearing jeans or trousers that extend over the top of your shoes, can mean you end up looking like a walking pair of curtains - short curtains to be precise.  Try wearing cropped pants that leave a gap showing-off the slimmest part of your leg (your ankle).  This will draw the eye to the trousers, then the leg, then the shoe - making you seem all that longer (and slimmer too).

4.   WEAR AT LEAST A SMALL HEEL

OK, so as the owner of a shoe shop I'm obviously biased here, but the truth is, heels will extend your legs and make them look longer, and for those who can't wear the skyscrapers, even a small heel can be flattering.  See, even heels can be short and stylish!
